Nafplion and the greater area of Argolis are famous for their cultural events, which range from famous theater and music shows, to carnival celebrations and festivals. A performance at the ancient theatre of Epidaurus is definitely one of the most memorable experiences, whereas every year Nafplion Festival hosts leading artists, composers and ensembles from around the world.
The famous "Nafplion Festival" is being held every summer in late June since 1992, under the auspices of the Municipality of Nafplio. Wonderful musical evenings are organized in various romantic corners of the city, under the starry sky. International renowned classical music orchestras and a number of famous Greek and foreign artists make an appearance every year at this festival.
This festival is held every year, during summer weekends, at the impressive and of unique acoustics ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. "Epidaurus Festival" is one of the finest ancient drama festivals of the world with international recognition. Greek actors Minotis, Paxinou, Synodinou , Katrakis ,Pappa , Koun , soprano Maria Callas,actor Kevin Spacey and other "sacred monsters" of the arts have performed there. Thousands of people visit the theatre of Polyklitos every summer, in order to enjoy the timeless and unique plays of ancient dramatic poets.
The Municipality of Nafplio consistently participates in the celebration of "Apokries" (the greek Halloween) by organizing the Anapliotis Carnival.
The program of the carnival, which is filled with events of all tastes, gives the opportunity to people of all ages to have fun and masquerade depending on their mood.
